9 – Tyra Banks
Paving the way as the first African American woman on the cover of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Tyra Banks started her modeling career when she was 15 years old. Modeling brands like Chanel, Oscar de la Renta and Givenchy throughout Europe, Banks’ popularity continued to rise as she landed covers on magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Seventeen before being named one of the original Victoria’s Secret Angels. Eventually taking her talents to television and landing her own daytime talk show, the 42-year-old Banks was the longtime host of America’s Next Top Model from 2003 to 2015.
Seeing her weight fluctuate over the years, Banks didn’t think twice when she told critics to “Kiss my fat a**!” after an unflattering photograph popped up of her in a bathing suit. Though her response made headlines, Banks lost the majority of the weight before finding herself climbing the scales once again in 2014 and unable to zip her favorite dress. Shedding the pounds, the former supermodel admits that managing her weight is an ongoing battle that often reminds her of her childhood when she was called an “ugly duckling.”
